Cambodian Senate President Acknowledges the Contribution of the Filipino Community in Cambodia during the Philippine Ambassador’s Courtesy Call
11 March 2021, Phnom Penh – Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amelita C. Aquino paid a courtesy call on Senate President Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei SAY Chhum on 19 February 2021 where both noted the warm inter-parliamentary relations between the Philippines and Cambodia.
Senate President Say Chhum recognized the important contribution of the Filipino community in Cambodia, especially in the education sector. He recalled that Filipino English teachers in Cambodia conducted English language classes for the staff of the Secretariat-General of the Cambodian Senate in 2015, 2016 and 2019 which was facilitated by the Philippine Embassy.
He also expressed appreciation for the scholarships provided by the Philippine government for Cambodian students.
As host of the Asia Europe Meeting this year and as Chair of ASEAN in 2022, the Cambodian Senate President shared that Cambodia will be hosting the 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting this year and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2022 during Cambodia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN.
