Philippine Ambassador and Cambodian Labor Minister Exchange Views

on Strengthening Cooperation on Labor and Migration

 

Courtesy call on MLVT H.E. Ith Samheng 1 Final

3 March 2021, Phnom Penh – Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amelita C. Aquino paid a courtesy call on Minister of Labor and Vocational Training H.E. Ith Samheng on 25 February 2021 where they both exchanged views and ideas to further strengthen Philippines-Cambodia cooperation on labor and migration. 

They noted the existing framework of cooperation  through the  PH-Cambodia Memorandum of Agreement on Labor Cooperation, Joint Declaration on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers, and the Memorandum of Understanding on Twinning Partnership between the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) and PhilHealth.

During the call, Minister Ith Samheng cited the Philippines’ extensive experience on migration from which Cambodia can learn best practices as Cambodia has   1.3 million migrant workers.

Ambassador Aquino expressed her appreciation for the Cambodian Government’s   hospitality to Filipinos in Cambodia and for its assistance in the repatriation of over 800 Filipinos due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For his part, Minister Ith Samheng conveyed his gratitude for the invaluable experience and skills shared by the Filipino workers in Cambodia. END
