“KAPIT KA” Training for Filipinos in Cambodia
2 November 2020, Phnom Penh – The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in cooperation with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), organized a financial literacy training entitled “KAalamang PInansyal Tungo sa KAunlaran (KAPIT KA): Training for Overseas Filipinos in Cambodia” in four Saturdays of October via Zoom.
Led by Director Mario Garcia, the CFO team discussed for two Saturday sessions (October 3 and 10) financial planning, budgeting, and saving, while two sessions (October 17 and 31) were allotted to discuss starting a small business, investing in bonds and stocks, and franchising.
A portion of the fourth session held on October 31 involved detailed presentations by CFO on the participants’ business proposals, including a fish farm, water refilling station, carinderia, and a laundry shop. Each presentation was followed by an open forum.
In her closing remarks, Vice Consul Frances Cleofas expressed the Philippine Embassy’s hope that the training imparted crucial knowledge and skills to the participants with regard to managing their finances and preparing for a comfortable retirement or when they return to the Philippines. The activity was conducted as part of the Embassy’s Gender and Development program. END
