Phnom Penh — The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia facilitated the return to Manila of two batches of overseas Filipinos this week. Onboard a special commercial flight of Cambodia Airways and Cambodia Angkor Air, a total of 111 overseas Filipinos arrived in Manila on 22 July and 23 July, respectively. All but 22 were self-paying passengers.

The Embassy cooperated with the two airlines to ensure that the plane tickets were offered at very affordable rates. The Department of Foreign Affairs closely coordinated with relevant authorities in the Philippines to obtain the necessary government clearances, including for those with medical conditions. This brings to 492 the number of Filipinos assisted by the Embassy in returning to the Philippines since the start of the pandemic.

Upon arrival in her hotel in Makati where she will be quarantined while awaiting the results of her COVID test, 60-year old Ms. Joy Paracha expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Embassy and commended the government agencies at the airport for their services, “Maraming maraming salamat sa tulong ng Embassy, sa awa ng Diyos, naka-uwi ng maayos dito sa Pilipinas. Maganda po ang serbisyo nila ngayon pati sa airport, coast guard, the best talaga sila. Hindi kami lahat nahirapan. Salamat po talaga.” (Thank you very much to the Embassy. With God’s help, I was able to go back home smoothly. Each government agency at the airport delivered excellent services, including the Coast Guard. They were the best. We didn’t encounter any difficulty at all. Thank you very much.”)

This month’s flights were the 4th and 5th flights organized/facilitated by the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia. The Embassy also distributed care packages to 593 distressed Filipinos last month. The Embassy is continuing its efforts to assist Filipinos in the Kingdom cope with the impact of the pandemic. END
