PHNOM PENH – 11 February 2020 – To the great excitement of the Filipino community in Cambodia, Filipino pizza restaurant chain “Yellow Cab” opened its flagship store in Eden Garden Mall in Phnom Penh last month. Famous for its Original Darla pizza and Charlie Chan pasta, the restaurant is expected to have its grand opening in April this year.

Yellow Cab Pizza is owned by the Max's Group, which also owns the fried chicken restaurant chain Max's Restaurant. The chain currently operates 101 branches in the Philippines and overseas, including branches in Qatar, United Arab Emirates, China, Vietnam, Oman, and Honolulu.

The Yellow Cab franchise in Cambodia is managed by Mongkol Food and Beverages and co-owned by Mr. Thomas Giordano and Ms. Kim Heang Tang, wife of the man who brought the Koi Cafe franchise. According to Mr. Giordano, a Koi company trip in Boracay Island led to the discovery of Yellow Cab as something that Cambodians will also enjoy.

Philippine Embassy personnel recently went to visit the flagship store and sampled the various flavors of pizza, pasta, and chicken wings on offer. Aside from having their usual favorites, they were introduced to two pizza flavors not available in the Philippines -- Cheesy Seafood and Salmon Teriyaki, which are becoming famous among the locals.

Mr. Giordano was pleased to note that Yellow Cab has been well-received by Cambodians, even during its soft opening. He mentioned his plans to open new branches in other parts of the country and to introduce delivery services, just like in the Philippines.

A favorite among Filipinos, Yellow Cab is sure to count on a steady clientele from among the 7,000 Filipinos in Cambodia. Upon learning of Yellow Cab’s opening in Eden Garden Mall, Filipino teacher Basilisa Romero, along with her friends, travelled for 30 minutes just to satisfy their craving for Yellow Cab’s famous pizza. “Kahit malayo, basta makakain lang ng pizza. Pero sulit naman. Busog sarap (It doesn’t matter how long I had to travel just to eat their pizza. But it was worth it. I ate to my satisfaction),” Romero posted on her Facebook page.

Philippine Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Mrs. Myca Magnolia M. Fischer said, “We welcome the entry of Yellow Cab Pizza in Cambodia, whose rapidly growing economy provides an emerging market for world class goods and services from the Philippines. Yellow Cab joins the increasing number of Philippine companies/franchises that are expanding their presence in the Kingdom.” Liwayway Corporation, Unilab, San Miguel Brewery, Potato Corner, Jewelmer, and Philippine Airlines are some of the Philippine companies currently operating in Cambodia.
