31 December 2019, Phnom Penh – With this year’s theme is “Jose Rizal: Huwaran ng Pilipino sa Ikadalawampu’t Isang Siglo,” Dr. Rizal’s remarkable qualities were highlighted during the Philippine Embassy’s 2019 Rizal Day Celebration held on 27 December 2019.

After a wreath laying ceremony at the bust of Dr. Rizal located in the Embassy grounds, selected portions of a documentary-drama entitled “Pluma” were shown that became the reference for an interesting and interactive discussion on the remarkable qualities of Dr. Rizal.

Eleven participants were given one letter of Dr. Rizal’s name and were asked to state one inspiring quality of Dr. Rizal and describe how he has shown this quality with the help of the documentary. Phnom Penh-based Filipino teacher and consultant Dr. Maria Aplaten served as the facilitator for the program.

Proclamation No. 126 issued in 2001 declares December as Rizal Month, while Rizal Day is celebrated annually on December 30. END
