PHNOM PENH, 28 November 2019 – The Philippine Embassy concluded the 20-hour Intermediate Khmer Language Class for Filipinos in Cambodia on 24 November 2019 with ten (10) participants who were either graduates of the Basic Khmer Language Classes organized by the Embassy earlier this year or who have been staying in Cambodia for more than a year.
In her remarks on 24 November 2019, Vice Consul Frances Cleofas congratulated the participants and encouraged them to engage more with Cambodian colleagues, clients and neighbors using what they learned in the classes. Communicating in Khmer language helps in building relationships and breaking cultural barriers with the locals.
The language program included complex conversations on work, daily routine or activities, renting a house, and going to a pharmacy. Offered free of charge to Filipinos, the language classes were held for two (2) hours in ten (10) Sundays at the Embassy.
The course was conducted by Mr. Hok Dara, a Khmer language teacher for foreigners and author of the book “Cambodian Vocabulary for Foreigners.” END
