PHNOM PENH, 5 September 2019 – Following the completion of the Basic Khmer Language Classes for Filipinos in Cambodia on 23 June 2019, the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh launched its continuation program “Intermediate Khmer Language Classes for Filipinos in Cambodia” on Sunday, 1 September 2019.
Attended by thirty-eight (38) Filipinos, the free language program aims to help overseas Filipinos engage more with their Cambodian colleagues, clients/customers, and neighbors, and create confidence in protecting their rights and welfare in the workplace.
The classes will focus on complex conversations regarding work, daily activities, and house rental, among others, and indirectly feature facts on Cambodian culture and traditions.
“The program is in line with the Embassy's engagement in helping the Filipino community in Cambodia to easily adapt to the environment by learning Cambodia’s culture, through the language,” Vice Consul Frances Cleofas said.
The course is conducted by Mr. Hok Dara, a Khmer language teacher for foreigners and author of the book “Cambodian Vocabulary for Foreigners.” Offered to Filipinos residing and working in Phnom Penh for more than a year and for Filipinos who completed the Basic Khmer Language Classes, the Intermediate Khmer Language Classes for Filipinos in Cambodia will be conducted for two (2) hours in ten (10) Sundays at the Embassy until December 2019. Participants will be given certificates after completing the course. END
