Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh Celebrates the
121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence
28 June 2019, Phnom Penh – On 12 June 2019, officials and personnel of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Phnom Penh led by Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Mrs. Myca Magnolia M. Fischer, together with the Filipino community and officials of the Samahan ng mga Pilipino sa Cambodia (SAMAPI), participated in the flag-raising ceremony at the Embassy’s premises.
SAMAPI officials led the singing of the “Lupang Hinirang” and the recitation of the “Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Watawat ng Pilipinas.”
A simple program ensued at the Embassy's Multi-Purpose Hall with a reading of the Independence Day messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte by Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Col. Jose J. Zuñiga and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Frances Cleofas.
Mrs. Fischer delivered a short message on the importance and meaning of the Independence Day celebration and reminded those present to maintain the good standing and image of Filipinos in Cambodia.
A Filipino children’s e-book entitled “We are Amazing” was launched. The e-book, originally written in English by Mrs. Jean Guittap, was translated to Filipino by participants of the Filipino Class for Children in Cambodia, who are aged 8-14 years old. It was illustrated by Sophia “Willow” Guittap, an alumna of the pilot Filipino Class for Children in Cambodia.
The Embassy also re-launched a photo exhibit from Project Saysay featuring ten (10) Filipino heroes.
Afterwards, guests enjoyed a breakfast buffet of Filipino favorite dishes and delicacies, such as sinangag, corned beef, lumpiang shanghai, fried bangus, and buko pandan. END
