PHILIPPINE EMBASSY, PHNOM PENH MARKS NATIONAL WOMEN'S MONTH

PHNOM PENH -- The Philippine Embassy rounded up its celebration of National Women's Month with a public screening of the movie “Si Chedeng at Si Apple” on 22 March 2019.

The film starred Gloria Diaz as Chedeng and Elizabeth Oropesa as Apple. It highlighted the importance of women empowerment, as the main characters take control of their lives and break free from society’s dictates. Interestingly, most of those who came to watch were male. The movie screening was made possible through the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

For the whole month of March, the ladies of the Philippine Embassy led the weekly flag retreat every Friday, as they sang the special version of "Lupang Hinirang" developed by the Philippine Commission on Women.

On International Women's Day on 8 March, the Embassy opened a Special Women's Lane in the consular section to prioritize female applicants. They were given a brochure of the Magna Carta for Women and treated to some light snacks. END
