"Panorama of Filipino Cinema" featured at 9th Cambodian International Film Festival

 

PHNOM PENH, 25 March 2019 – Cambodian movie-goers were treated to a collection of classic and contemporary Filipino films at the 9th Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF) held in Phnom Penh from 09 to 14 March 2019.

 

Organized by the Cambodia Film Commission and the Bophana Center, the festival showcased a “Panorama on Filipino Cinema” featuring eight (8) Filipino films, as follows:

 

  1. Gusto Kita with All My Hypothalamus by Dwein Baltazar
  2. Ang Panahon ng Halimaw (Season of the Devil) by Lav Diaz
  3. Nabubulok (The Decaying) by Sonny Calvento
  4. Gino and Marie by Joselito O. Altarejos
  5. Insiang by Lino Brocka
  6. Sonata by Peque Gallaga, Lore Reyes
  7. Deadma Walking by Julius Alfonso
  8. I'm Drunk, I Love You by Jaime Habac, Jr.
  9. Girly Is In Control of His Life by Gilb Baldoza

 

At the invitation of the CIFF, key personalities of the Philippine film industry attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the Festival, and served as resource persons for the public screening of their respective films. They include Filipino actresses Shaina Magdayao and Iana Celeste Bernandez, and Directors Sonny Calvento and Joselito Altarejos.

 

“We are pleased that through the initiative of the CIFF and with the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Cambodian film lovers were able to take a glimpse of the long tradition, bountiful talent and rich artistry of Philippine cinema. The Philippines Embassy stands ready to support the Festival in bringing more Filipino films to be featured in future editions of the CIFF," Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher B. Montero said.

 

The week-long Festival featured more than 135 films from various countries, including short and feature films, documentaries and animation. END
