FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN CAMBODIA HAIL ESTABLISHMENT OF DIRECT MANILA-PHNOM PENH AIR LINK
The Filipino community in Cambodia welcomed the recent announcement of Philippine Airlines (PAL) on the commencement of its Manila-Phnom Penh direct flight beginning on 01 April 2019.
At a recent get-together with a PAL senior management team held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, around 200 members of the Filipino community expressed elation and excitement on the upcoming maiden flights of PAL between the two cities.
"Air connectivity between our two capital cities has always been a main priority of the Philippine Embassy in order to intensify relations between the Philippines and Cambodia, and we thank PAL's top management for favorably considering the representations we have made in the past few years to make it a reality," Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia, Christopher B. Montero, told the gathering.
"PAL's Manila-Phnom Penh direct flights will not only benefit the Filipino community in Cambodia, but will also serve to strengthen the overall relations between our two countries and peoples," Ambassador Montero added.
The PAL senior management team, led by its Regional Head for Sales, Ms. Marie Jemma B. Saranillo, informed the audience of the national flag carrier's maiden flight offering from Manila to Phnom Penh beginning, with five (5) weekly flights beginning in April 2019. To highlight its expansion plans, Ms. Jaramillo likewise provided an overview of PAL's domestic and international operations, including its recent attainment of a 4 Star SkyTrax rating.
At the gathering, PAL awarded complimentary round trip tickets (Phnom Penh-Manila) to two (2) lucky members of the Filipino community.
Aside from the meeting with the Filipino community, the Embassy arranged meetings for the PAL team with high government officials of Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Tourism, as well as with top officials of Vinci Airport, the private company that manages the Phnom Penh International Airport, and the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA).
