PARALLEL LIVES" PHOTO EXHIBIT
GOES ON PUBLIC DISPLAY IN SIEM REAP
The "Parallel Lives" Photo Exhibit, a snapshot collection showcasing the lives of ordinary Filipinos and Cambodians from different walks of life, at its different stages, went on public display in Siem Reap on 17-18 November 2018.
Launched on 26 August 2017 in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of PH-Cambodia diplomatic relations, the exhibit features the winning entries of the Parallel Lives Photo Competition organized by the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia, with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines and cooperation of Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts.
In her welcome remarks, Consul General Myca Fischer cited that the “bilateral relations between the Philippines and Cambodia have grown and deepened steadily, covering cooperation and exchanges in the political, economic, cultural, tourism, labor, agriculture, law enforcement, and defense fields. But perhaps the most important anchor in the bilateral relations are the people-to-people ties between the two countries.” She noted that there are many similarities between Filipinos and Cambodians — both are religious, family-oriented, and fun-loving, and at the same time, there are cultural nuances that distinguish Khmers from the Pinoys. “Through this exhibit, we aim to increase mutual understanding of each other’s culture and traditions with the end in view of cultivating a deeper friendship between our two peoples,” Consul General Fischer concluded.
A long-time resident in Siem Reap, Ms. Maritess Enriquez brought many of her fellow teachers to the exhibit. “I’m very happy that the Embassy decided to bring this exhibit to Siem Reap. It is an excellent way to learn more about each other’s traditions and cultures,” quipped Ms. Enriquez. END
