ASEAN DIPLOMATS IN PHNOM PENH BOWL IN FRIENDLY COMPETITION

In commemoration of the 51st ASEAN anniversary, diplomats from ASEAN Embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia held the first-ever ASEAN Friendly Bowling Tournament in Phnom Penh on 22 August 2018.

 

 After the playing of the ASEAN Anthem, Ambassador Michael Tan of Singapore, representing the current chair of ASEAN, and H.E. David Luy, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, delivered brief opening remarks and led ASEAN Heads of Mission, including Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Mr. Christopher B. Montero to ceremonial roll of the ball.

 Ten (10) mixed teams, named after various Cambodian provinces, were formed and led by each ASEAN Ambassador. The teams were composed in such a way that there was gender balance and equal representation from each Embassy.

The Kratie Team, led by the Chargé d'Affaires of Malaysia, won the highest scoring team award, followed by Pailin Team, led by the Ambassador of Myanmar.

Mrs. Elise R. Purba, wife of the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indonesian Embassy, and Mr. Fa San from the Embassy of Thailand were the Top Female and Male Scorers, respectively.

The ASEAN Friendly Bowling Tournament was initiated by the Philippine Embassy, with the aim of promote closer relations and foster camaraderie between and among the staff and officials of ASEAN embassies and Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry, and their families. It follows the successful conduct of the ASEAN Family Day, which was spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy during the Philippines’ chairmanship of ASEAN in 2017.

 

 The participants from MFAIC and ASEAN Embassies expressed appreciation to the Philippine Embassy for organizing the bowling tournament.
