PHNOM PENH -- The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia officially launched the Philippines' Remork Tourism Campaign at the Philippine Embassy courtyard on 14 September 2017 in Phnom Penh.
The tourism promotion activity involves forty (40) mini-billboards mounted on the back of the tuktuks -- or remork as they are known in Cambodia -- that roam the cities of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap -- both densely populated with Cambodian and foreign tourists that the Philippines hopes to attract.
Ambassador Montero said that the remork was chosen to be the physical and literal vehicle of the campaign because "it was the most ubiquitous form of transport in the city, and we want to communicate to everyone that the Philippines welcomes all Cambodians and expats into our country."
Mr. Lor Thoura, Director of Marketing and Promotion Department of the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia attended the launching, together with the Miss Cambodia 2016 winners. The event was attended by over 100 people from the travel and tourism, business and government sectors and was widely covered by the local press.
Phnom Penh-based Filipino performing groups such as the Divergent Band and the Bahandi Rondalla Group provided entertainment to guests while being served with traditional Filipino food for cocktails.
The Embassy likewise announced the launching of a photo competition entitled "Selfie My Way to the Philippines" for foreigners to take his/her selfie with any of the 40 participating tuktuks. Participants need to post their selfie photos at the Embassy's official Facebook page, with the most number of "likes" by midnight of 14 November to be declared as winner of one (1) free round trip ticket from Siem Reap to Manila courtesy of Cebu Pacific Air.
The tourism promotion project is part of the Embassy's series of activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Cambodia. END
