Around 400 ASEAN citizens living and working in Phnom Penh braved the heat of the sun and joined the first ever ASEAN Charity Fun Walk held on 21 May 2017 at Koh Pich, Phnom Penh.
Led by the Philippine Embassy, in cooperation with all ASEAN Embassies in Phnom Penh and the support of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Fun Walk is the first collective activity of ASEAN Missions in Cambodia to commemorate ASEAN's 50th Anniversary.
In his welcome remarks representing the Philippines as ASEAN Chair, Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher B. Montero highlighted the importance and relevance of ASEAN in the everyday lives of ASEAN citizens, noting that objective of the event is aligned with the people-centered, people-focused theme that the Philippines is pursuing for its ASEAN chairmanship, i.e. strengthening our ASEAN identity and sense of belonging one caring and sharing community.
Several ASEAN companies doing business in Cambodia, including Filipino companies Liwayway (Cambodia) Food Industries Co., Ltd., San Miguel Beer, and United Pharma (Cambodia), sponsored the event.
Proceeds of the charity event will go to Kantha Bopha Foundation, which provides free medical services to indigent children across Cambodia.
