Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero made an introductory call on H.E. Samdech Krolahorm Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Cambodia, at the Ministry of Interior headquarters in Phnom Penh on 25 August 2015.
During their meeting, Ambassador Montero and DPM Sar Kheng both expressed their desire to strengthen and enhance Philippines-Cambodia relations, particularly in the fields of law enforcement, combating transnational crime such as human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking and terrorism, and immigration matters. They agreed to facilitate the immediate signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in transnational crime between the Philippine National Police and the General Commissariat of National Police of Cambodia.
Ambassador Montero expressed the appreciation for the Cambodian Government's hospitality to the more than 5,000 Filipinos residing and working in the country, and sought the Ministry of Interior's assistance in providing official data of Filipinos in Cambodia so that the Philippine Embassy would be able to obtain an accurate figure upon which to base the scope of services it provides to the Filipino community. In noting that Filipinos are welcome in Cambodia, DPM Sar Kheng encouraged them to always ensure that they have legal status in the country. END.
