Philippine Ambassador Christopher B. Montero made an introductory call on H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, at the Ministry of Tourism in Phnom Penh on 04 August 2015.
During their meeting, Ambassador Montero expressed the Philippine Government's desire to accelerate tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges with Cambodia. He noted that in 2014, approximately 93,000 Filipinos visited Cambodia while a little over 3,000 Cambodians visited the Philippines. He likewise expressed hope for the signing of an Implementation Program of the Philippines-Cambodia Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Tourism Cooperation, which will facilitate collaboration on tourism planning and development, marketing and promotions, and human resource development. Ambassador Montero also cited the contributions of the more than 5,000 Filipinos in Cambodia, some of whom work in the tourism and hospitality sector, in promoting two-way travel between the two countries.
H.E. Thong Khon conveyed his support and commitment to further advance Philippine-Cambodia cooperation in the area of tourism and culture. He also expressed hope that more flights, particularly direct flights between Manila and Phnom Penh, could be established in the near future. END.
