20 June 2025, Phnom Penh – Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo paid a courtesy call yesterday on His Excellency Ang Vongvathana, Chairperson of the Commission on Legislation and Justice of the National Assembly of Cambodia and President of the Cambodia-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group. The Vice-Chairpersons and members of the Group were also in attendance.
Ambassador Mayo cited the important role of inter-parliamentary ties in deepening bilateral relations and welcomed the establishment of the Philippines-Cambodia Parliamentarian’s Friendship Group of the House of Representatives of the Philippines and its counterpart, the Cambodia-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of Cambodia, in August and November 2023, respectively.
“The Embassy will be pleased to facilitate engagements between the National Assembly of Cambodia and the House of Representatives of the Philippines to promote collaboration in various areas, including legislative cooperation against transnational crimes.” She looked forward to parliamentary exchanges that would address common interests best served by legislation.
Ambassador Mayo also cited the ongoing English language training program arranged by the Philippine Embassy for 36 staff members of the National Assembly with positive feedback from the trainees.
The legislatures of both countries remain actively engaged through regional and multilateral fora, including the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). END
