PHNOM PENH, 18 December 2024 - Philippine Ambassador Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo led the observance of the 128th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal in a short program commencing with a wreath-laying ceremony at the grounds of the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia.
In her message for the occasion, Ambassador Mayo enjoined her colleagues to reciprocate Dr. Rizal’s love for Filipinos by celebrating the anniversary of his martyrdom in the most meaningful ways. “As beneficiaries of his great sacrifice, we should be able to channel our national hero’s values and legacies especially toward our work at the frontlines of public service,” she exhorted.
Jose Rizal’s Alin Mang Lahi, a kundiman he wrote on 12 September 1891 in Brussels, Belgium, was a highlight of the solemn remembrance of his life and death. Captain Leo C. Dimoc, Defense and Armed Forces Attache of the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia, recited the kundiman which was essentially the hero’s emotional love song to the motherland.
Profound reflections on Rizal’s enduring legacies shared by the men and women of the Philippine Embassy rounded off the observance of his death anniversary. END
