Phnom Penh, 6 November 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia accepted today a donation of the painting Haring Agila ng Pilipinas from Bing Famoso, a Filipino visual artist dedicated to promoting endemic and indigenous flora and fauna through art.
The 30” 20” acrylic artwork portrays the critically endangered Philippine Eagle as depicted on the Philippine ePassport. The turn-over ceremony took place on the sidelines of the 16th Asia Art Alliance Exhibit and 2024 Phnom Penh Special Exhibition running from 6 to 10 November 2024 at the Sosoro Museum in Phnom Penh. There, the Philippines is represented by seven all-women artists, namely, Giselle Oliquino, Ann Bolos, Angelie Banaag, Summer Devenlay, Christine Peralta, Bing Famoso, and art leader and curator Mylene Quito.
“By providing a safe nesting place for Haring Agila in its chancery, the Philippine Embassy is proud to support conservation efforts around the Philippines’ endemic flora and fauna. We commend as well the seven Filipino women artists present here for soaring high in their artistic endeavors,” Philippine Ambassador Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo remarked at the turnover ceremony.
The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh is the 11th recipient of Ms. Famoso’s Haring Agila which now graces the DFA Office of Consular Affairs and Philippine foreign service posts in Los Angeles, Singapore, Chicago, San Francisco, Hanoi, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka and Bangkok.
Ms. Famoso is the founder of the Philippine Botanical Art Society and the Philippine Fauna Art Society in collaboration with botanists and scientists from the National Museum of Natural History of the Philippines. These art societies raise awareness about Philippine native wildlife through the works of Filipino artist members. END
