Phnom Penh, 01 August 2024 – On her first official visit to the province of Siem Reap in Cambodia, Philippine Ambassador Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo paid a courtesy call on Major General Huot Sothy of the Provincial Police Commissariat and Governor Prak Sophoan on 26 and 27 July 2024, respectively.

During the working dinner hosted by the Provincial Police Commissariat, Ambassador Mayo thanked Major General Huot Sothy for past assistance rendered in the rescue of Filipino victims of human trafficking during his stint in Oddor Meanchey.  She sought and received assurances from the Siem Reap Police Commissariat of their continued protection of Filipinos in the province.

With Governor Prak Sophoan, the Philippine Ambassador discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in tourism including the resumption of direct flights between Siem Reap and a Philippine island destination.  They discussed the strong people-to-people ties between Filipinos and Cambodians and explored appropriate sister-city arrangements with the greatest potential to boost two-way tourism flows.

In both engagements, Ambassador Mayo expressed pride in the contributions of Filipinos working in Siem Reap mostly as teachers and missionaries.    END
