Phnom Penh, 01 August 2024 – Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo paid a courtesy call on National Assembly President Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, on 30 July 2024 in pursuit of deeper ties between the Philippines and Cambodia.
Samdech Khuon Sudary warmly received Ambassador Mayo and quickly recalled her friendly engagements with members of the Philippine legislature. The leader of the lower house of the Cambodian Parliament envisioned formal cooperation with the Philippine House of Representative to promote exchanges and information sharing for mutual learning. The National Assembly President hoped that bilateral ties would expand through trade, capacity-building programs to boost people-to-people exchanges and human development, and the sharing of best practices in the digital economy and higher education.
Ambassador Mayo assured Samdech Khuon Sudary that the Philippines remains committed to enhancing its relations with Cambodia on various fronts. The Philippine Ambassador reviewed the healthy progress attained by both sides in defense and security cooperation, commercial partnerships and people-to-people ties. Ambassador Mayo reaffirmed the Embassy’s readiness to serve as a bridge to deepen the two countries’ interparliamentary partnership while advancing mutual interests on various fronts such as connectivity, business, agriculture, and education.
The Philippine Ambassador and Samdech Khuon Sudary agreed to also work together on issues affecting women and children, such as health and education.
In addition to regional and international parliamentary fora, the legislatures of both countries engage each other in the Philippines-Cambodia Parliamentarians’ Friendship Group which seeks a more responsive and supportive approach to their respective countries’ development goals. END
