Phnom Penh, 27 June 2024 - Thirty-two (32) overseas Filipinos in Cambodia were among the happy graduates of the Basic Khmer Language Online Course (Batch 5) offered by the Philippine Embassy from 06 May 2024 to 10 June 2024.

Out of 73 enrollees across the country, the graduates completed the course on conversational Khmer which included greetings and useful phrases. Mr. Hok Dara,  author of the book Cambodian Vocabulary for Foreigners, led the lessons customized for Filipino participants. 

In her remarks during the online graduation ceremony on 6 May 2024, Vice Consul Genina Marion T. Rafal commended the participants’ commitment to complete the free language course. “Learning the Khmer language facilitates communication in our host country while enriching our immersion in Cambodia’s culture and traditions,” she said. 

The Department of Foreign Affairs’ Office of Undersecretary for Migration Affairs funded the language course as a demonstration of the Philippine Government’s unwavering commitment to promoting the welfare of Filipinos overseas. END
