Juana GAD Sister Stella

The Philippine Embassy, led by Ambassador Christopher B. Montero, organized a film showing of the Filipino classic “ Sister Stella L” on 31 March 2015, to celebrate National Women’s Month. About  90 members of the Filipino community Phnom Penh joined in the celebrations.

Under the theme “ Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga sa Kinabukasan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!”, this year’s celebration pays tribute to all women leaders and their important contribution to government, business, and society. 

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Montero, highlighted the significant role of women in nation-building, especially in the Philippines.  Meeting the Filipino community in Phnom Penh for the first time after his arrival in the capital on 26 March,  Ambassador Montero took the opportunity to share his objectives with respect to the revitalization of Philippines-Cambodia relations and the improvements in the delivery of the Embassy’s front-line services.  He informed the community that the Embassy has limited to 20 the number of public holidays that it will observe to better serve the Filipino public.

Starring Vilma Santos, Sister Stella L. is a story about the struggles of a nun against injustices and government oppression.  END.
