The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia Celebrates the

2023 International Women’s Day

PHNOM PENH, 9 March 2023 -- The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia is one with the world in celebrating the 2023 International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month through various initiatives supporting women empowerment, gender equality, and inclusivity.

Female clients were provided with feminine hygiene kits on 7 March 2023, ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March, a public holiday in Cambodia. This will help raise awareness of the lack of access to feminine  products, which are important in reducing health risks affecting women. The Embassy will continue to give away feminine hygiene kits on all Wednesdays of the month.

Embassy employees also joined in a Women’s Day quiz bee to celebrate women in history and women leaders, as well as show off their knowledge and awareness on women's empowerment, gender, and inclusivity. Winners were awarded gift certificates to boost their wellness.

Finally, the Embassy kicked off its video interview series on Gender Equality in the Workplace by uploading its inaugural video on its Facebook page. The series aims to share the experiences of Filipino women working in Cambodia in various fields, such as interior design, education, management, etc. Video interviews will be shared throughout the month.

The Philippines observes March of every year as National Women’s Month and celebrates March 8 as a special working holiday. Philippine Republic Act 6949 series of 1990 enjoins employees from the government and private sector to participate in activities conducted by their offices every 8th March. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) chose the theme “WE for gender equality and inclusive society” for the celebration of Women’s Month from 2023-2028. -- END
