The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh Brings Government Services
Closer to Filipinos in Cambodia
PHNOM PENH -- Overseas Filipinos in Cambodia received services from various Philippine government agencies in the 3rd Multi-Agency Service Mission held at the Philippine Embassy grounds on 21-22 March 2015.
The mission brought the services of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas closer to the people. On-site processing of OWWA Memberships, Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs), and PhilHealth membership renewal and updating were done, and briefings and one-on-one consultations were provided by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas about personal finance and safe investment practices. The Embassy on its part, delivered passport and notarial services, and gave briefings on Cambodian labor law and work permits.
Representing the agencies were Assistant Labor Attaché Melissa C. Mendizabal and Administrative Assistant Ms. Cecile Cortez from the Department of Labor; Ms. Rosanna Siray, OWWA Welfare Officer; Mr. Arnel Adrian C. Salva of the BSP's Economic Financial Learning Center; and Philhealth's Mr. Rey T. Baleña, Senior Manager, Formal Sector Department of PhilHealth, Mr. Brian C. Florentino, Public Relations Officer, NCR-North and Mr. Michael N. Tomas of the Overseas Filipinos Program.
The activity also received the strong support of the Samahan ng mga Pilipino sa Cambodia (SAMAPI), which helped mobilize the Filipino community to avail of the services and learn more about their privileges and responsibilities as OFWs. It was also hailed by participants as "an effective and concrete way of demonstrating the government's commitment to serve Filipinos, wherever they may be." END.
