Pintura Pambata Kids’ Art Workshop
Phnom Penh – The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia and Sentro Rizal Phnom Penh organized “Pintura Pambata Kids’ Art Workshop” at the Embassy’s Multi-purpose Hall on 12 February 2023, in observance of the National Arts Month under this year’s theme “Ani ng SIning, Bunga ng Galing”.
Minister and Consul General Emma R. Sarne, in her opening remarks, encouraged the participating children to showcase their Filipino heritage and culture through the art of painting. Nine (9) Filipino children studying in Phnom Penh learned the basic techniques of acrylic painting, with the “buko” (young coconut) as the subject, under the guidance of Filipino artist in Cambodia, Ms. Zoila Albano.
Ms. Zoila Albano, a Filipino artist currently teaching Art at the Philippine International School of Phnom Penh, participated in the 2019 GSIS National Art Competition with her entry “Becoming Filipino”. She hails from Solano, Nueva Vizcaya and has consistently shared her artistic talents with her community by organizing a youth art group named “Young at HeART”. Through this art group, artist Zoila encourages young people, especially the women in her community, to explore creative expressions through painting.
The children actively took part in the activity where they learned how to properly blend colors and the uses of the different art brushes and brush strokes in painting a beloved symbol of Filipino culture. The children went home not only with their masterpiece but also art materials that will hopefully encourage them to pursue their new found creative skill. END
