Filipino Teachers in Cambodia Celebrate World Teachers’ Day
The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia and the Teachers Learning Action Guild in Cambodia (TLAGC) commemorated World Teachers’ Day with a “Celebration of Service” on 8 October 2022 at the Embassy’s Multi-purpose Hall.
Ninety-six (96) Filipino educators from among the more than a thousand Filipinos teaching in various schools in Cambodia attended the event.
Ms. Lovee Mae Campbell of TLAGC delivered the welcome remarks, citing that the world-class Filipino teaching force constitutes one of the most important foundations in nation-building.
In her inspirational message, Ambassador Maria Amelita C. Aquino paid tribute to the teachers for their commitment, patience, love and sacrifices, imparting not only knowledge but helping shape and mold the students’ values and character that will help prepare them to be good citizens and future leaders. She commended the Filipino teachers in Cambodia for their dedication and contribution in educating the youth of the country as well as their continuing pursuit to improve their professional capabilities and skills.
Certificates of recognition were awarded to those who completed the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) offered by the US Department of State through the Regional English Language Office of the US Embassy in Manila for teachers of English as a Second Language and to the participants in the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Developing Global Filipino Teachers (DGFT) program which is being piloted by CHED in Cambodia and aims to further enhance the teaching skills and competencies of Filipino teachers around the world. Certificates were also given to those who have dedicated 2 to 20 years of service to the teaching profession in Cambodia.
In closing, Mr. Jay Ian Capungan, founder of TLAGC and recipient of TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Coach Masters’ Teacher of the Year 2022, encouraged the Filipino teachers to remain inspired and enthusiastic to learn new things and upgrade their personal and professional development.
