Consular Outreach in Sihanoukville
25 April 2022, Phnom Penh – The Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia reached out to our kababayan in Preah Sihanouk for the first time since 2020 after COVID-19 restrictions limited Post’s consular outreach missions in the Kingdom.
The consular mission conducted in the capital city of Sihanoukville on 23 and 24 April 2022 served a total of 78 Filipinos living and working in Preah Sihanouk, rendering 43 consular services, and for the first time, overseas field voting for the 2022 national elections.
Filipinos who went to the consular outreach and overseas field voting precinct thanked the Embassy and the consular outreach team for conducting the first post- pandemic consular outreach in Sihanoukville, and for the “excellent” services rendered to them.
The Sihanoukville consular outreach was headed by Consul General Emma Sarne. She consulted with the overseas Filipino workers in Sihanoukville on the challenges encountered by returning workers and new opportunities presented by the opening up of Cambodia.
Sihanoukville, a coastal city, is five (5) hours away by land travel from Phnom Penh, and is famous for its long, uninterrupted string of beaches along its coastline. Many Overseas Filipinos in Preah Sihanouk have found work in the hospitality industry, serving as managers or directors of Human Resources, training, housekeeping, security, and operations of the many resorts, hotels and casinos in the city.
