Phnom Penh, 30 June 2021 – The Philippine Embassy held a simple graduation ceremony on 27 June for overseas Filipinos in Cambodia who successfully completed the Basic Khmer Language course.  Of the 41 who completed the course, 15 were present during the event.  The course, already on its third batch, is offered by the Philippine Embassy with funding from the DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs.

PH Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amelita C. Aquino congratulated the participants for their grit and determination to finish the course despite the technical challenges of participating online.  She underscored the value of learning the Khmer language, giving one remarkable insight into the culture and society of Cambodia which helps foster understanding and respect as well as inspire solidarity.  She encouraged the graduates to continue learning the language, including through interactions with Cambodians.

The course was conducted through the Zoom online platform from 30 March to 11 May 2021 and was taught by Mr. Hok Dara, a Khmer language teacher for foreigners and author of the book “Cambodian Vocabulary for Foreigners.”  END
