Commemoration of the
160th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh – On 19 June 2021, the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia and Sentro Rizal Phnom Penh commemorated the 160th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal with a wreath laying ceremony held at the Embassy grounds followed by brief remarks from Ambassador Maria Amelita C. Aquino.
Mindful of Dr. Rizal’s firm regard in the youth as the future of the nation, his poem “Por La Educacion Recibe Lustre la Patria” (Through Education is the Nation Gratified, translated into English by Nick Joaquin, Philippine National Artist for Literature) was read and delivered by Ms. Angela Leynes, daughter of Finance Officer Lorleejane Mandi, and Mr. David Sarne, son of Consul General Emma R. Sarne.
