Philippine Embassy’s First Virtual Kapihan sa Pasaguan in 2021
Tackles Cambodian Labor Law
Phnom Penh, 17 May 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia successfully held its first Kapihan sa Pasuguan for 2021 via zoom on 15 May, with 58 Filipino participants from the various provinces in Cambodia.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Maria Amelita C. Aquino warmly welcomed the participants and cited the relevance and timeliness of the topic on Cambodian labor law given various inquiries received by Post on labor-related matters.
Mr. Manh Narith, Deputy Director of the Labour Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, discussed relevant portions of the Cambodian Labor Law, including on types of contracts in Cambodia, resignation of employees, termination of contracts, seniority indemnity pay, severance pay, end-of-service benefits and settlement of disputes procedure.
The open forum after the presentation showed the interest of the participants to know more about their rights and benefits as employees, especially during this time of the pandemic.
Mr. Manh Narith has been an advisor on legal affairs related to the labour field to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training since 2015. He was also involved in drafting labor-related legal instruments such as the Law on Trade Union, Law on Minimum Wage, Law on amendment of the Labour Law and Law on Social Security.
After the discussion on Cambodian Labor Law, the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attache in Cambodia, Col. Shalimar R. Imperial, also conducted a briefing on security developments in the Philippines. END
