Phnom Penh, 29 March 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia joined in the celebration of the National Women’s Month through the conduct of various activities in March, in particular offering consular services, distribution of a select number of hygiene packs, an online poetry reading activity, and wearing purple on Mondays.

The Embassy’s first activity was on March 8, a national holiday in Cambodia, where consular services were offered to all Filipinos in Cambodia with priority on female clients who were given hygiene packs.

On March 22, Sentro Rizal Phnom Penh organized an online poetry reading.  Filipino community members Camille Tijamo, Bobby Viceral, and Teddy Ariel Publico read the poems “Kung Ibig Mo Akong Makilala” by Ruth Elynia S. Mabanglo,  “Kasalo” by Joi Barrios, and “Tinitimpi Sana” from Bernardo Carpio by Jose de la Cruz, which were sourced from Hiyas ng Tulang Tagalog under the Aklat ng Bayan project of the Commission on the Filipino Language.

On all Mondays of March,  Embassy personnel expressed their support for women empowerment and gender equality by wearing purple clothes. The Embassy also played the national anthem Lupang Hinirang version prepared by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), which recognizes some of the remarkable Filipino women who became agents of change.
