The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Phnom Penh has noted an increase in reported incidents of petty crimes committed against foreigners/tourists, including Filipinos, in recent months.

The most common incident targetting foreigners has been snatch thefts, usually perpetrated by persons riding in tandem on a motorcycle. They often prey on unsuspecting foreigners and tourists with exposed purses or handbags.

In view of this, the Embassy advises Filipinos who are residing/working and/or visiting Cambodia as tourists to be cautious and vigilant of any suspicious-looking elements. While strolling the streets or visiting tourist spots, they may leave their passports, most of their cash, and other valuable items in a safe and secured place of their hotel or residence.

The Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia has assured the Embassy that the situation in Cambodia remains generally safe and peaceful. Nevertheless, it has promised to increase police visibility in areas frequented by foreigners to deter the incidence of crimes.
