Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh Congratulates 15 Filipino Graduates of the Online Intermediate Khmer Language Classes for Filipinos in Cambodia
26 November 2021, Phnom Penh - On 18 November 2021, the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia congratulated the 15 Filipinos who successfully passed and completed the online Intermediate Khmer Language Classes.
The 3rd batch of the Intermediate Khmer Language Classes started on 12 October 2021 and ended on 18 November 2021, and were held via Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
In her remarks, Consul General Emma R. Sarne emphasized the importance of learning the Khmer language. She further indicated that the 15 graduates will be included in the Embassy’s database of Filipinos in Cambodia who can effectively speak, converse and understand the Khmer language. These Filipinos are an important asset who may be called upon to assist in translating Khmer for fellow Filipinos in Cambodia.
The 20-hour language training program, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs - Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA), was organized to help Filipinos in Cambodia enhance their skills in the Khmer language and help them in better adapting to their environment and relating with Khmer colleagues and clients.
The lectures, taught by Khmer language teacher for foreigners and author of the book "Cambodian Vocabulary for Foreigners" Mr. Hok Dara, covered intermediate grammar, sentence structures and formulation, new vocabulary, among others.
The 15 Filipinos, who finished the said course, will receive Certificates of Completion. END
